Philip Melancon sings the exuberant, heartfelt songs of the inimitable
Johnnie Ray. Recognized as the musical link between the crooners of
the forties and the rock and rollers of the fifties, Ray is a perfect
stylistic fit for Melancon as he cries and croons over a rocking piano.

Ray?s first hits of ?Cry? and ?Little White Cloud that Cried? mark the
first two million-selling disc. His colorful life drove him from the
U.S. only to see him peg 21 chart-toppers in the U.K. Still memorable
to American listeners were the pop hits of ?Please, Mr. Sun? and
?Just Walking in the Rain?.

Cry is the first in the Fall series of cabaret shows featured at the
historic Prytania. Since last Spring?s series, this venue has become
home to midday cabaret for New Orleanians.
