On Wednesday, July 22nd, "Professors" continues with pianist Peter Nu. Doors open at 7pm at admission is $5, free to LEH members and students. The evening includes two sets from Mr. Nu and an interview with WWOZ DJ and documentarian David Kunian. A short reception will follow the 2nd set.
Peter Nu was born in the United Kingdom in 1950, the last in a long line of Czech piano players. He began playing the piano and other instruments by the age of seven, and started playing with jazz dance bands and combo R&B bands throughout London at the age of 18. By 1970, under the masterful direction of well known jazz composer Stan Tracey, Peter cultivated and refined his unique talent and began to establish a solid reputation as a stylistically versatile jazz musician. He has performed with such greats as lyricist John Hendricks, sax player Evan Parker, singer/songwriter Maggie Nichols,and local favorites such as Coco Robicheaux, Irving Charles, Earl Turbinton, Curtis Pierre, Davell Crawford and John Boutte.
