Host: The Ogden Museum of Southern Art Type: Music/Arts - Concert Date: Friday, July 31, 2009 Time: 7:30pm - 10:30pm Location: Ogden Museum of Southern Art's Taylor Library Street: 915 Andrew HIggins Drive at Lee Circle City/Town: New Orleans, LA Phone: 5045399618 Email: sspicer@ogdenmuseum.org DescriptionThree-time Grammy award-winning trumpet player and composer Terence Blanchard will premiere music from his upcoming new CD, “Choices,” at a concert at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art's Patrick F. Taylor Library on Friday, July 31. This is the first time that Blanchard has recorded an album in New Orleans. The new CD, “Choices,” was recorded in early March in the Ogden’s Patrick F. Taylor Library. The Library, completed in 1889, is the only existing building in the South designed by New Orleans native H.H. Richardson. Guest artists on “Choices” include writer, speaker, educator and activist Dr. Cornel West and singer, musician and composer Bilal. West performs spoken word pieces on the album with Bilal providing vocals on a few of the tracks. “Choices” is scheduled to be released August 18, 2009 on Concord Records. The “Choices” premiere concerts on July 31 will feature Blanchard and his band—Fabian Almazan on piano, Derrick Hodge on bass, Kendrick Scott on drums and Walter Smith III on saxophone, and special guest vocalist Bilal. The concerts—at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.—will provide concertgoers exclusive insight into the development of the project and its documentation for film. In speaking about the project, Blanchard says,“Life is all about expansion and evolution. We make choices every day, none of which are right or wrong. They are simply choices that allow us to explore the variety of what’s before us.” Proceeds from the concerts will benefit the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. SHOW TIMES: 7:30 p.m.; 9:30 p.m. TICKET PRICE: $50 general admission, per person; $40 per person for museum members; seniors (65+) and students ($18 +) with a valid id. For information and ticket reservation, call Stephanie Spicer, 504/539-9618. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RSVP ON FACEBOOK DOES NOT RESERVE AN ACTUAL SEAT AT THE CONCERTS.
