On Wednesday, June 24th at 7pm, the "As Told By Themselves: the New Orleans Brass Bands" project continues at the LHC. This installment features the Treme Brass Band.
An enduring presence on the parade and social club scene, the Treme is led by drummer Benny Jones and continues to play their weekly gig at the Candle Light Bar in the Treme neighborhood. Their albums include Gimme Back My Money and I Got A Big, Fat Woman. The evening will feature a panel with Dr. Bruce Raeburn of the Tulane Jazz Archive, with the band discussing their history, their involvement in brass band culture, and the state of that culture today. A performance will follow the panel. The series is funded in part by a grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Doors open at 7pm. Admission is $5, free to students, with short reception to follow. For more information, contact Brian Boyles at boyles@leh.org or 504-620-2632. "As Told By Themselves" events are recorded and distributed to libraries, scholars, and sound archives. Interested organizations should contact Brian Boyles for a copy. |
