David Roe and The Royal Rounders
will perform 9 PM Monday June 1 Neutral Ground And Tuesday June 2 7 PM Buffas on their Tom Traubert’s Tour of Bars Ballads and Blues 09 David Roe Piano, Vocals Michael Huebner Drums Thomas Nuendel Violin I’m afraid to admit it, but I learned my first Tom Waits tune because it was on the flip side of Best Of My Love which my singing partner at the time thought would be a good addition to Desperado, which we also did at the time. She wasn’t sure about Ol 55, but I was. A couple years later, while hitch hiking, a woman brought me home and left me alone with her record collection. In an afternoon, I had three more genius tunes under my belt. And I have been learning at least a couple more every year since. I recently discovered that I perform at least one song from nearly every Tom Waits album released. In addition, I have recorded Mr. Waits’ songs on my 3 CDs currently in print, on Chris Chandler’s American Storyteller CDs, and on The PLAYING FOR CHANGE DVD and CD. On this tour, I am concentrating on the ballads and love songs hidden amongst some of Mr. Waits’ more cacophonous tracks. I have found that these songs fit in around a campfire, mixed in a bar set with rock and roll or Dixieland with ease. David Roe has logged millions of touring miles. DR, as he is known from Singapore to Cape Cod, has played in Rock, Country, Blues, Wedding, Ethnic, Folk, Classical, Historical, Jazz, Jug Band and Traditional Jazz ensembles. He accompanies himself on piano, guitar and ukulele. Musical influences include Jimmy Durante, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong and Pearl Bailey, Dave Van Ronk, Dylan, Odetta, Pete Seeger, Leadbelly and Josh White. DR has a repertoire of about a million tunes from country blues and down home folk to jazz, swing, and even a few popular songs from each decade of the 20th century. Well, maybe not the 80s. DR wrote songs and sketches for three seasons of Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion., and written, arranged and acted as band leader or music director for Faires, Conventions, Recordings and Industrials.
