The long-awaited New Orleans premiere of Cabildo, the 1932 one-act opera by noted American composer Amy Beach, will be staged Thursday, April 16, in the place where it was set…in the courtyard of the historic Cabildo on Jackson Square!
The performance is a gala benefiting the Louisiana Museum Foundation and honoring our New Orleans Opera Association executive director Robert Lyall for his contributions to the arts. Tickets are $300 and include a champagne reception and elegant post-performance dinner at Muriel’s Jackson Square. The opera will be performed again on Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 PM as part of the French Quarter Festival. A limited number of free passes will be available on the day of the performance. Cabildo has been performed at the “Live at Lincoln Center” series, in addition to other venues throughout the country. Keith Marshall and Music @ Madewood has arranged for Houston’s Opera Vista to present the opera in the Cabildo in partnership with the Louisiana State Museum.
