MUSIC! MEMORIES! FOOD! FUN!
SECOND ANNUAL JAMBALAYA JAM DURING JAZZ-FEST TIME IN NOLA THIS YEAR HELD AT JIMMY'S CLUB FOR JIMMY'S FIRST-EVER REUNION! New Orleanians are famous for their love of finding reasons to party, and Monday, April 27, 2009 will be no exception during Jazz-Fest time. Jimmy Anselmo, owner of the now-gone-but-not-forgotten Jimmy's Club at 8200 Willow Street in Uptown (where the Frat House is now located) will once again be the venue of choice for celebrating a menu of music, memories, food and fun, starting at 6 pm, til. . . . Jimmy's Club spanned nearly four decades of vast varieties of music offerings, starting in the 1970's until closing in 2007. "This Jimmy's reunion will be our first," Anselmo says. "Hopefully, we'll start a new tradition." After recently viewing Facebook, Anselmo realized folks from all around the globe were writing each other about great memories from their Jimmy's Club days. He set up his own Facebook to soon discover that club-goers and music-lovers began nostalgically writing him also about their memories of frequenting his famous club, which as Benny Grunch would say, "Ain't der no more." Last year at Jazz Fest-time, Anselmo organized what turned out to be a hit-event at Southport Hall, slated as the First Jambalaya Jam, with Patty Lee Records, award-winning Chef Emille, a group of New Orleans music connoisseurs from England (headed up by Ken Major and his Tales of the Woods group), and wild pianoman Armand St. Martin who spearheaded a host of hard-hitting musician friends "who jammed up a storm" to a jam-packed patio party. It made perfect sense to repeat last year's success by combining Jimmy's Club Reunion with a Second Annual Jambalaya Jam by mixing-in Chef Emille's Jambalaya Cooking Demonstration and Free Tasting, along with the sounds of a variety of musicians from Jimmy's past who plan to converge at Jimmy's to jam all night long for fans while music memory-sharing. Brad Edelman is set to Emcee. Armand St. Martin will be featured again in his own piano-night performance, and will also be joined by music friends to kick off the all-night Party. Other headlining acts on this reunion bill, along with St. Martin, are Johnny J and The Hitmen, the Del-Lords, Cranston and David Clements, Waka Waka, and Dash Rip Rock, to list a few of the many musical surprises in store. The clock will be turned back in time with tickets only $5/each. "All the proceeds from the door with be donated to Children's Hospital," Anselmo says. "We hope for a full house all night long." It seems apparent that New Orleanians and visitors to our great Post-Katrina city are primed for a Jimmy's Reunion back at Jimmy's! - P.Lee Ink it on your calendar now, so you won't miss this "local scene to be seen": JIMMY'S CLUB FIRST REUNION & SECOND ANNUAL JAMBALAYA JAM During Jazz Fest-time in New Orleans Monday, April 27, 2009 6 pm til . . . .
