New Orleans Women in Music (NOWIM) Commemorates Women's History Month
Showcase features some of New Orleans finest female musical talent

New Orleans, LA ? New Orleans Women in Music (NOWIM) will present
their first showcase on Saturday, March 7th at the New Orleans Jazz
National Historical Park. The performance is the park's kick off of
a month long celebration of Women's History Month, with performances
that feature female musicians. The showcase features performances by
Some Like It Hot, Olivia Greene, Banu Gibson, Mayes2 and Germaine
Bazzle.

The NOWIM event showcases ten of its performing members. Some Like It
Hot is a traditional jazz ensemble whose members are Kaye Caldwell,
Lil Josephine, Nita Hemeter, Joan Pizzolato and Janice Medlock. Jazz
singer Olivia Greene's Trio will feature pianist Mari Watanabe and
drummer Nita Hemeter. Banu Gibson will present an intimate duo with
her accompanist David Boeddinghaus, performing music from the
1920's-40's . Mayes2, the husband/wife duo Frank & Cindy Mayes, will
be backed by Yvette Watkins & Terri "Sticky T" Cranford from the
all-female blues band, "30 x 90?. Germaine Bazzle will sing with
accompanists Mari Watanabe and Lil Josephine.

New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is located at 916 N. Peters
Street in the French Quarter. The performance time is 2:00pm-3:30pm.

NOWIM is an organization made up of female musicians and business
women in the New Orleans music industry. The group's mission is to
promote the careers of professional New Orleans women by providing
information, networking and support; to preserve the unique musical
culture of New Orleans by supporting the education of upcoming
musicians and working towards quality music programs in New Orleans
area schools; and to encourage the hiring of local musicians.
