UPCOMING OGDEN AFTER HOURS
Thursday, February 26, 2009, 6 to 8 p.m.

Johnaye Kendrick
Johnaye Kendrick has been studying jazz since the age of 18. Her
vocals recall Sara Vaughan and Dinah Washington, but interpreted in
her own dynamic style. Not only is Johnaye an accomplished singer and
violinist, she also has considerable writing and arranging skills.

A San Diego native, she completed her secondary education at the
School of Creative and Performing Arts where her focus was the violin.
Johnaye relocated to Chicago to attend the Chicago College of
Performing Arts at Roosevelt University before transferring to Western
Michigan University, where she received a Bachelor of Music with
emphasis in Jazz Studies in 2005.

Now residing in New Orleans, studying at the Thelonious Monk
Institute, Johnaye has had the privilege of studying with some of the
greatest jazz masters in the world including Terrence Blanchard, Kurt
Elling, Benny Golson, Nnenna Freelon, Danilo Perez, Lewis Nash, Jimmy
Heath and Ron Carter.
