Studio 831 is proud to present the works of Karbety, Aaron Reichert, Douglas Walker, Geraldine Arata, and Kathleen Whitehurst amongst many other Artists now thru the weeks following Jazzfest. Earlier this month, Studio 831 relocated to the 500 block of Royal Street. The Studio’s new, larger location offers gallery and artist workspace along with a unique courtyard sculpture garden. Since the Grand Opening, the Gallery has continued to expand their network of local and emerging artists. The new fine art crop featured proudly hangs next to the likes of Greg Creason, Steve Martin, Tracy Jarmon and Ralph Richards.

Karen ‘Karbety’ Hollowell: A staple of the gallery, Karbety has accumulated many awards and accolades during her career. She can now add 2011 Grand Prize Winner of Readymade Magazine & Creative Allies’ annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage art competition. Her winning masterpiece ‘Sweet Spot’ will be available along with limited edition prints and giclees through out the Jazz Festival season.

Aaron Reichert: An unheralded talent, Aaron uniquely and unequivocally paints enthralling portraits of prominent Americans, both past and present. His ability to both engage viewers with his unique approach to portraiture while intimately reporting his subjects’ essence proves to be a disarming and tender examination of their publicly conceived status.

Douglas Walker: A Vancouver based sculptor, Douglas produces beautiful sculptures that combine the whimsy of music with the aesthetic craft of art. Best known for turning recycled musical instruments into Rube Goldberg-esq exterior water pieces, his work features an ingenuity that literally turns music into water- or wine, should you have enough to recycle!

Geraldine Arata: Geraldine has explored many different media and disciplines, ceramics, jewelry, porcelain doll making and more. In 1997, Arata began to seriously paint again. She attended intense painting workshops in the classic techniques of the Old Masters for four summers at the Liliedahl Fine Art Studio in Texas. Liliedahl inspired her to attend San Francisco Academy of Art University where she earned her Master of Fine Art degree in 2007. Although a native of San Francisco, New Orleans with its carnival atmosphere and distant past appeals to Geraldine and has inspired much of her featured works.

Kathleen Whitehurst: Our most recent collaborator, Kathleen Whitehurst calls upon her Cajun heritage to produce vibrant and charming folk art. A native of Lafayette, her impressionist style has been perfected by her sailing travels through Europe and beyond. The rugged dangers of the undeveloped countries she’s experienced dance in step with the Zydeco tone her pieces radiate.
