Summary
Composed by Brahms during a visit to the Austrian Alps, the cheerful and expansive tone of the second symphony is likened by some to Beethoven’s “Pastoral” symphony. Ravel’s colorful “Alborada el Gacioso” opens the program with a Spanish flair.
